Welcome to my class.
I just wanted to take some time here to explain my process and background in teaching this class. I walked into my first college classroom to teach students in 1987. I have a BFA in Painting from the University of Evansville, MS in Painting from Indiana State University and a MFA in Painting from the University of Tennessee, Knoxville. My first professional exhibitions were in Paris, France where I lived for a year after graduate school and in New York.
Since my last degree, I have participated in over 100 exhibitions across the US as well as in France, England, Sweden, Finland, Lithuania, Columbia, Argentina, Korea, Japan, China, Australia, and New Zealand. I have won “Best of Show” at the Meridian Museum of Art and recently been invited by that museum to jury their next competition.
In my painting practice, I have traveled over 22,000 miles painting on location in the US and Canada painting in every state with a total of 133 paintings during one summer. This was one of the best learning experiences I’ve ever experienced.
I don’t want to sound like I’m bragging here. I simply want you to know how serious I am about the art practice and how I am trying to give you the best introduction to basic observational painting. The main idea is how to see color as a painter. I’ll show you how to analyze color digitally. I’ll demonstrate process through several videos and in class. But it is through practice, practice, and more practice that you will see your skills improve. Come to every class and participate in each assignment and you will see that you can learn to paint well!
